The Ngurratjuta Art Centre was established in 2003 to provide a place for Western Arrarnte Artists to paint, learn and share ideas. The Art Centre is funded by the Ngurratjuta/ Pmara Ntjarra Aboriginal Corporation, an association of those communities affected by the oil and gas mining operations at Mereenie and Palm Valley.
Many of Ngurratjuta's artists paint in their own homes located on remote communities. The artists sometimes paint at the Art Centre on Monday and Tuesdays and on these days there are between five and twenty town-based artists paint on site. The Art Centre is located a short distance from the centre of Alice Springs (approximately 15 minute walk) and is open to visitors Monday to Friday from 8-4pm.
This is beautiful country and the locals uphold a proud tradition of quality art. If you are in the area, seek their work out and support their enterprise.
