I am ranting today. I am looking at getting fit again after my health set back in the latter half of this year has me despairing that most fitness trainers are assuming you are either at prime of life age or you suddenly jumped into frail elderly.
Yes we can modify the advice given to us by trainers to suit our own senior bodies but I ask, ’Why should we have too?’
We pay for fitness training just like everyone else.
We aim to be strong seniors for many decades, not as a fast transition through phase and we represent a huge number of the population interested in fitness, yet the fitness trainers are largely ignoring our needs. Yes they modify their eating plans for vegetarians, how about they modify their training regimes and the eating plans for the totally different needs of the sensational senior age group who wants to participate in fitness programs.
These photos are of my wonderful husband Reg. I guess as his carer you could call me his fitness trainer. I work very hard to remain fit so I can care for him for his entire life. That is my primary goal.
I would love to have a trainer for me but I am tired of programs aimed at 20 to 30 year olds.
Seniors are still and active group striving to be fit but advice to exercise first thing in the morning for instance is totally unreal for those of us who need a few hours to warm up not a few minutes. We need fitness trainers who understand our needs and do not assume it is a great idea for all of us to begin exercising at 6am in the morning as just one example of the huge gulf in the advice given by most trainers and the needs of the sensational senior age group of fitness interested people like myself..
