Port Julia in South Australia has a low cost caravan parking site at only $6 per night or $25 per week. It has very basic camping facilities flush toilets and bore water. (2011)
Port Julia is lovely quiet beach side fishing town off the main highway between Black Point and Port Vincent. There is a, boat ramp, jetty and a safe swimming beach.
I love the natural bush setting and the bird life.
Yum those crabs are good eating. Fishing is a popular activity there. That's what healthy lifestyle can do for you.
There are major mice plagues in South Australia, as indeed there are in many regions following recent ample rain fall. (2011) These mice are proving to be a problem for many travellers this year, they get into cars, under the bonnets, they can nibble on wiring.
Travellers may need to set traps overnight in areas where only the mice will reach. Be careful not to trap the wildlife.
(NOTE: This blog is written in 2011 and obviously the prices and conditions relate to 2011. You will need to check with the local authorities (not me) to obtain the current prices and availability of camping.
There are reports that the fishing conditions are fantastic at the moment along the New South Wales far south coast.
Choosing the location and packing the van for a family holiday these days involves a lot more than just throwing in a few extra fishing rods for the children.
For those who mainly want to fish, the heavy rain of recent months has flushed out rivers and lakes. There are large schools of bait fish near the coast.
The warm ocean currents and ample food supply from smaller species have helped to attract bigger species to the coastal waters. I hope for the anglers that this is the story right along the east coast this year.
Flying Fish Point
Flying Fish Point is aptly named, we often see the flying fish, also dolphins at this peaceful Far North Queensland's rich estuary fishing location. Less inhabited and unsophisticated, this is the place for the fisherman and the writer to find a peaceful retreat away from the sophisticated resort beaches.
Flying Fish Point is located at the mouth of the Johnstone River, Innisfail. Innisfail is a great town for most essential shopping, prices are reasonable, cheap and good quality fruit and vegetables and free (aside from the cost of the bait and lost tackle), fish, help offset the cost of the caravan park rent.
Fishing off the beach is popular, Reg has caught, 23 whiting in the past 24 hours, fishing 45 minutes either side of the high tide, using shrimp bait, here of the beach at Flying Fish Point. The Flying Fish Point Caravan Park a caravan park is just meters from the beach.
