Significant changes took place for tomato growers. With a ready source of POW labour, along with an intelligent workforce, they were able to develop many of the new, hybridised and disease-resistant tomato plants that I'm growing today.
"Tiny Tim" is one of the 1945 tomatoes introductions. It is a surprisingly tiny plant, growing to only 30cm (12in) tall, so no staking is needed. It can be grown as a potted plant anytime of the year. The fruit is juicy and has a very good, sweet/tart, tomato flavour.
