Seymour is a pretty township in Victoria, Australia it is located 98 kilometres (61 mi) north of Melbourne, making it a good rest stop base for Reg and I on our trips from Northern Victoria via the Goulburn valley Highway, down to the southeastern suburbs of Melbourne to visit family during our summers in Victoria.
Seymour is the main base for agriculture in the Mitchell Shire, it’s main industries are equine, cattle, sheep and wine) . I have been an exhibitor three times at the Seymour Alternative Farming Exposition which is held in February each year.
Seymour is the main town that services the nearby military base of Puckapunyal which is an important training centre for the Australian Army.
The township is also home to a well-established railway museum and art Galleries - Old Courthouse and Old Post Office Seymour.
Seymour offers a wide selection of dining options to visitors that include The Prince of Wales Hotel, The Somerset Winery, Old Post Office Seymour, Fine Art Gallery & Restaurant,
Seymour is located adjacent to the junction of the Hume Highway and Goulburn Valley Highway and I have been dropping into Seymour for a meal while on tour for fifty years and I ate my first ever whole grilled flounder in a road side cafe in Seymour in 1961.
I love the creations of the public art work and the clean amenities block provided for passing tourists. Seymour is a great place to take a rest break and even stay and look around, view an art gallery, and enjoy a meal and stay overnight and enjoy a little of the surrounding countryside.
