How to get there Sassafras is 45 minutes from Melbourne. Take the Eastern Freeway and continue onto Eastlink tollway. Exit at Burwood Highway and follow the road through Upper Ferntree Gully. Alternatively, travel east on the Monash Freeway from the city and exit at Ferntree Gully Road.
Some more images of the areas we visited last week. These are from sassafras a beautiful town in the Dandenong ranges of Victoria. Yes the autumn leaves are already beginning to change in some areas.
Areas to Visit in the region.
Alfred Nicholas Gardens Seek inspiration in the water features, waterfalls and ornamental lake at the Alfred Nicholas Garden.
George Tindale Memorial Gardens Wander beneath the towering mountain ash that provide a canopy for a huge variety of exotic flowers and plants.
Dandenong Ranges National Park Follow the nature walk trails through the Sherbrooke Forest and spot native wildlife and perfect picnic spots.
I love Autumn, even though it is not Autumn yet, the mornings are becoming misty and the evenings cool ideal sleeping conditions and days are sunny but not too hot. Just perfect here in Victoria at the moment as long as you are not in the flooded north west and west of the state. I will be writing some reviews to help earn the funds for our tour.
Reg and I will keep our traveling to areas unaffected by the floods and hope the west drys out before we venture in that direction in late April. So for now we are exploring the northern, central and north east of Victoria in our gray nomad travels and also spending a lot of time around our home base in the Goulburn Valley of Victoria.
This area truly is a beautiful part of the country and right now after the rains we have had, Victoria, is showing itself as 'the Garden State'.
Over the next month and into April we will be traveling though the Dandenong Ranges a lot as we will want to see our daughters a great deal before we head off to South and western Australia.
